Jim, the community here is great. Notes have generated great subconversations, told people about my work on my behalf, and produced a lot of amazing dog pics over the last few days.
Jim - I would add, it's a writer's community AND a publisher's community. Our drivers are different, our audiences are as diverse as one might imagine. What seems to be so common since I moved my daily and weekly publications to Substack is not so much how we all wander in the dark a bit, 'wondering how best to grow our audience' beyond lettering Substack's back-end technology spread our words - the thing that has been the most surprising, and valuable, to me is the responsiveness of writers on here who almost always respond with helpful ideas and trouble-shooting advice. Substack are helpful too, but when you reach out to a fellow writer who is doing something you are curious about - a simple question for guidance has given me surprises of help beyond my expectations.
I wasn't kidding when I said that I was quite touched by it. ❤️

Thanks for the comment, Andrew. I agree that the community is awesome.
Hi Mark. These are great points. And I agree, the bits of advice are often surprisingly good and eye-opening.
I joined recently as well, and it's been so heartening to find such a supportive writing community here. And such wonderful writers!
