I loved this story. Growing up in NYC, we always imagined what it was like living "on the water"- one reason why "Flipper" was such a popular show. You kids were so independent and experienced things most of us wouldn't in several lifetimes. Can't deny I'll always be a touch envious of that childhood, though. As the proud owner of "Shark-Eating Man Productions", with a nickname of the "sharkeatingman" (and, no, I've never eaten shark in my life), it's my homage to "Jaws"- the most influential movie of my lifetime, and my love of- and crippling fear of- the Jimmy Cagney's of the Sea.
Well, Geno, I have to say that this might be the best comment I've received since joining Substack. Thank you for taking the time to write this. My wife has been urging me for years to write these stories, but I've always been "too busy" with other projects. Substack creates the perfect venue. However, I'm sure that your childhood in NYC would also inspire some amazing stories. :)
That's surprising to hear, actually, but glad I helped make your day. It is well-deserved and from the heart. Most of my "Staten Island" stories find their way into my movie scripts, but I'll continue to share some here as well.
I'm glad he got away in the end!
I am too!
All sharks are beautiful animals, but sand sharks are also usually pretty harmless, I believe.
True. I love how your imagination ran with it, though.
Thank you!
"More than fifty years after my epic battle, I still wish the shark well." This is such an awesome quote!
Thanks Olivia! That's nice of you to say!
