Welcome – and a quick introduction
Over the past few days, many of you have subscribed to this free newsletter through a fantasy and speculative fiction promotion. I want to take a moment to introduce myself properly — and to reintroduce this space to the thousands of you who have been here longer.
My name is Jim Melvin. I write character-driven fantasy and horror stories set in worlds where myth, landscape, and ordinary people collide — sometimes quietly, sometimes violently.
This space isn’t a high-pressure newsletter or a constant stream of promotions. Instead, I use it to share new writing, behind-the-scenes thoughts about storytelling and world-building, and occasional updates when new books or projects are ready. Most posts are meant to feel more like conversations than announcements.
If you joined because you enjoy immersive fantasy, folklore-inspired horror, or stories grounded in place and atmosphere, you should feel at home here.
Over the coming weeks, I’ll share excerpts from current projects, reflections on the writing process, and glimpses into the mountains and landscapes that inspire much of my fiction.
If at any point this isn’t for you, there’s absolutely no pressure to stay — your time and inbox are valuable, and I appreciate you giving my work a chance.
For now, welcome. I’m glad you’re here.
— Jim
