A celebration of epic proportions
I've got big news, and it won't cost you a penny to find out what it is.
Today is my two-year anniversary on Substack. This is my 180th post. As of 11:30 a.m. Friday, I have 2,111 subscribers, all free. However, after sending this I’ll lose about 5 subscribers and gain about 3. (And to be honest, this particular post will probably be more like 10 and 0. 😟)
Many will say that making my Substack perma-free was a rookie mistake. They’re probably right. But I don’t use Mailchimp, MailerLite, Campaign Monitor, or anything like that. So, since a portion of my Substack’s content has served as a promotional vehicle for my novels, I just didn’t feel right charging for it.
As it turned out, the majority of my content has expanded beyond my novels. I didn’t plan for this to happen, but I’m glad it did. And I’ve developed a small but loyal following because of it.
Speaking of my novels, I recently received some unexpected news. My epic fantasy series The Death Wizard Chronicles — which was first published by a respected midsized house about ten years ago — went out of print at the end of January 2025. To most writers, this would be bad news. But I’m actually quite excited. The six-book series sold well in its day, but like most books, it eventually fizzled out. So now I’m going to release a new edition! Six books will morph into three, all of which should be out by the end of this year. In fact, Book One will be out no later than the end of April 2025.
I love this series to death. It is my masterpiece. Bringing it back to life thrills me to no end. (See what I did there?)
The Death Wizard Chronicles is a cross between The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. It blends high fantasy with dark fantasy, contains graphic violence and some sex, and is intended for mature audiences.
I’ll be posting updates over the coming weeks. The updates will be free, and each time I post one, I’ll lose about 5 subscribers and gain about 3. 🤣
Hopefully, somewhere in that mix, I’ll also gain a reader or two.
Happy Anniversary to me!
Congrats.
Congrats Jim! So happy to have met you here!
